Adding nearly 90,000m² of retail space to the original St. David’s shopping centre, St David’s 2 was opened on the 22nd October 2009 and in the first six months since opening saw a footfall of 20 million people. A joint venture between Capital Shopping Centres and Land Securities Group, the success of the development has placed St. David’s in the top five shopping destinations in the United Kingdom.
Our Contribution
Following a very rigorous tender process 10 Squared were selected by the St. David’s partnership to project manage, manufacture, install and maintain a total of 18 interactive wayfinding information points.
Designed by Air Design the wayfinding points are a superb mix of active and static signage which include Braille panels as part of the City-wide accessibility programme. Static branding and signage is reverse printed on to 10mm toughened glass over the whole units with flat panel LED back lights illuminating street names and level indicators. The active wayfinding is achieved with 32” interactive LCD touch screens on one side complimented by static maps on the other. The static map has been designed in such a way that it can be retrofitted with active mapping easily at any point in the future.
13 of the information points direct customers around the main retail scheme with the remaining 5 units being installed in the Eastside part of the centre which is devoted purely to restaurants and café’s and split over two levels.
Despite only having 7 working days to install, test and commission the 18 units due to hiccups in the main scheme building timeline, all the wayfinding points were up and running ready for the centre opening.
