Canary Wharf, London, is one of the largest office/retail districts in the world, consisting of over 4.6 million square feet. The area is both above and below ground level, including 5 shopping malls, and 5 districts of Office space.
With an estate of this size, way finding can be a problem, especially with the site spread across various levels. The management decided to move into digital way finding as opposed to the static way finding currently used.

10 Squared were given the task of designing, manufacturing and installing a fully weatherproof, rugged unit, that is capable of touch and viewable in direct sunlight.
The unit was designed with the very popular (indoor) Totem product in mind. The unit had to go through a full redesign to enable it to be completely weatherproof, but had to keep the same aesthetics as the original Totem. The standard Sharp 46” 1080p LCD Screens were modified to be sunlight viewable and then glass bonded to make them rugged enough to withstand the elements. Multi-touch capability was then added via fully weatherproof Infra Red touch sensors and feature LED lighting was added to the side of the Totem making it highly visible during night time operation.
Since being installed in February 2009 the Wayfinding Totem has provided 24 / 7 / 365 access with 100% up-time.
